The UK is well represented. London hotels, Ham Yard Hotel in Soho, and Rosewood Hotel in High Holborn have both made it to the list of Finalists in several Interior design categories. The Inn at John O’Groats, and Ibis Edinburgh represents the best of contemporary Scottish design in the highly contested Architecture sections, and the House Spa at The Dormy House Hotel in the Cotswolds is nominated in the Spa and Wellness category.

Judging will be based both on creative excellence and commercial viability. The judging panel – all acknowledged leaders across the wide range of disciplines within the hotel industry- will be placing emphasis on “rigorous and appropriate design”, individuality, practicality, innovation and sustainability, as well as taking into account sensitivity to the heritage/planning requirements for each project and how successfully it fits into the surrounding environment.

The overall quality of entries for this year’s European Hotel Design Awards was the highest I have seen in ten years on the judging panel,” says Matt Turner, Editor-in-Chief of Sleeper Magazine.

“The voting to select the final five in each category was very close and the shortlisted entries can all be proud to have made it this far. The shortlist demonstrates the diversity of today’s hotel industry and the talent of the designers and architects who play such an important role in enhancing the guest experience for their clients.”

The winners will be announced at the award ceremony at Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge on Tuesday 25th November 2014.
