Cruise ships have always been associated with style and glamour. But as customers’ expectations increase, the demands on the cruise companies to provide ever more luxurious accommodation and facilities grow.
In their bid to stay well ahead of the competition veteran cruise line Holland America, which has been operating vacation cruises since 1895, has commissioned a new ship, the ms Koningsdam to be the first of a new “Pinnacle” class of vessel for the line.
The 2,650 passenger ms Koningsdam is due to set sail in February 2016 and bookings will be taken from 1st December 2014.

Holland America Line has released new details of its upcoming cruise ship the ms Koningsdam which is currently being constructed in Italy.
The ship is set is to be a brand new class for the Seattle-based cruise line and at 88,500 tons will be the very first in the pinnacle class of ships. Koningdam is currently being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy but once it’s complete will offer the very best Holland America has to offer and more.
So before we look at whats to come, Holland America have released a video that’s showcases the future cruise ship. We can see renderings of what the ship will look like including public spaces and the vessel itself.
The cruise line states that the story of the ship will unfold online over the coming months through vibrant renderings, engaging videos, ship facts and more details about the interiors created by Adam D. Tihany and Bjorn Storbraaten.
“When guests come aboard ms Koningsdam they’ll know they’re on a Holland America Line ship, but they’ll see we’re taking a forward-thinking approach to many of the design elements,” said Stein Kruse, CEO of Holland America Group. “Revealing the first renderings and video of ms Koningsdam enables us to give future guests an advance look at the stunning interiors and over the coming months will reveal innovative new features along with our classics hallmarks that will create a cruise experience for the travelers of tomorrow.”
The person who is leading the interior design is Tihany, regarded as one of the world’s pre-eminent hospitality designers. Tihany will be Focusing on fluid curves and graceful lines, light-filled spaces and the natural flow of public areas, Tihany’s metaphorical approach to the interiors of ms Koningsdam was inspired by the “architecture of music.”
“The idea was to tell a story that guests can connect with throughout their voyage,” said Tihany. “I was inspired by the thought of what you might see from the inside of a musical instrument, what the architecture of the surfaces and the geometry look like.”
Tihany will also be joined by architect and designer Bjorn Storbraaten who will be bringing the ship to life in a familiar yet innovative style. With his previous work on ms Eurodam and ms Nieuw Amsterdam, Storbraaten adds continuity of the brand toms Koningsdam, while taking elegance to the next level.
